Congratulations to Kara Buehler, the recipient of the 2007 Evan Relkin Scholarship award. The Evan Relkin Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Evan Relkin, who died tragically while coaching one of Midstate’s house teams. Dr. Relkin was a professor of audiology at Syracuse University.
Annual Scholarship Awards: A maximum of one scholarship of $500.00, to each of the top two candidates as determined by the Scholarship Subcommittee may be awarded. Scholarship Criteria: - Applicants must be planning to attend a two or four year college in the fall following the current hockey season.
- Applicants must be currently registered members of Midstate Youth Hockey Association or Syracuse Blackhawks.
- In recognition of Dr. Relkin’s prominence in the field of education, the applicants must have an excellent academic record. In addition to the applicant’s grades, involvement in extra-curricular academic pursuits, in honor of Evan’s focus on scientific research and his desire to make a difference, will be considered in the selection process.
- Community service, such as his volunteer work with Midstate, was an important part of Evan’s life. This will also be an important part of the selection process. Applicants should include any records of their community service.

Applicants will be asked to meet with the Scholarship Subcommittee. A decision will be made and submitted to the Midstate Board of Directors with the intent to award the scholarship(s) at a future MYHA Board meeting.
Donations are accepted via checks payable to the Evan Relkin Memorial Scholarship Fund.
